About Anime Wordle

Anime Wordle is a hobby project that grew into a small community of daily anime puzzlers. This page tells you who built it, why, and where it's heading.

Our Mission

There are thousands of anime series out there, and figuring out which one you're looking at from a genre tag, a silhouette, or a single blurred frame is a real skill. Anime Wordle exists to make that skill fun to practice. Every day we pick one mystery anime and one mystery character and one mystery poster, and the whole community tries to solve the same puzzles. No accounts, no ads that interrupt play, no paywalls.

Who Built This

Anime Wordle is built and maintained by a solo developer (lemmih-dev). It started as a Wordle spin-off in late 2025 after a weekend of watching too much Frieren and wondering how few clues it would take to recognize any anime. It launched publicly in January 2026 and has been adding a new mode roughly every few months since.

Where the Data Comes From

All anime metadata — titles, genres, studios, episode counts, scores, and popularity rankings — comes from the MyAnimeList (MAL) public dataset, refreshed periodically. We currently track several thousand series. Character names are curated from MAL's character pages. Poster images are stored at low resolution for the game's "blurred poster" mode and serve only the purpose of gameplay hinting.

How the Daily Puzzle Is Chosen

Each game mode has its own list of eligible daily answers, weighted toward more popular titles so that the puzzles remain guessable by most players. A deterministic mapping from calendar date to answer means every player worldwide sees the same puzzle on the same day. We pre-generate the schedule weeks in advance so there's no server-side randomness to worry about.

What's Next

Planned additions — roughly in priority order — include an opening-song guessing mode, a multi-round streaks mode, better accessibility for screen readers, and Japanese/Spanish/Portuguese translations beyond the current English/Turkish/Japanese/German/Italian/French set. We also want to ship a short-form "educational" section that explains anime industry concepts like production committees, animation studios, and seasonal scheduling for players who are new to the medium.

Open to Feedback
